Henry Street Pilates teaches on equipment designed by Joseph Pilates himself, essentially unchanged since the 1930s, called The Tower. The Tower is an elevated mat attached to a series of springs, bars, and handles, which allow you to move the body in any number of directions, up and down, in and out, back to front, and side to side. Think of a trapeze act without the Spandex and altitude.

All of our instructors are certified through the most prestigious training centers. Authentic and effective Pilates instruction, especially, depends on the rigor of the teacher's training. An authentic Pilates instructor has had at least 600 hours of education and 5 years of experience before they teach at Henry Street Pilates. Anyone teaching Pilates with less training than that, is not teaching Pilates.

One of the first Towers. You can still see its origins: Pilates designed his first equipment out of the bunk beds in the WWI internment camp where he was held prisoner.

The Tower today. Sleek, effective, and ingenious fitness engineering.
